 Underhaug: only the name has changed (from Kverneland) Well over 100 British potato growers are happily operating ‘Underhaug’ planters and harvester… without even knowing it! This is because their machines carry the ‘Kverneland’ brand. A series of acquisitions and sales have seen the company which made these successful machines revert to its founder’s name under the ownership of Belgium based TKS Group. “We looked very hard at the potato machinery market in the UK and the machines available. Underhaug not only offer a superbly engineered range of equipment but also, and most importantly, a range that suits the UK and its challenging conditions, particularly the need for precision and care of the potato crop” says CTM’s Director, Nigel Mountain. | Underhaug Planters, Accuracy and Durability Underhaug are among the world’s best selling planters; testimony to their accuracy, ease of use and durability. CTM Root Crop Systems offer 2, 4 and 6 row machines with the choice of mechanical drive or computer controlled hydraulic drive and fixed or tilting hoppers. There is also a choice of mechanical or hydraulic belt agitation. Large diameter turn rollers facilitate high speed operations, up to 10Km/hr, without loss of accuracy subject to seed spacing. On the hydraulic models this is fully adjustable from the tractor cab whereas the manual system offers 30 step adjustment through a traditional gearbox. Row spacing is set between 75 and 90cm. There is a choice or fixed, floating or heavy duty furrow openers followed by roller disc or ridge formers to cover the seed potatoes. The easy to use computerised controls monitor and maintain planting depth and lift the hopper automatically to ensure continuous flow. Underhaug Harvesters Underhaug 2700 Potato Harvester, the gentle touch. The Underhaug 2700 is a high capacity 2 row potato harvester, available in the UK from CTM Root Crop Systems. It has 1650mm webs, a large sieving area and integrated axial rollers. Its patented ‘teleweb’ system is complemented by a star roller table for effective soil removal. An efficient flight conveyor gently conveys the potatoes without rollback onto the axial roller cleaning system. A full width picking table is available as an optional extra.
